F.A.Q.
WinStar
Q: I need to pair a Mercedes-Benz transponder key to the car, as the remote central locking function is inactive. How is this function carried out?
A: Enter the Mercedes Win-Star program and go into the body section of the vehicle. Then, go into the coding section. Select remote/transponder key. Follow the prompts to initialize/pair the key to the car. This may take a minute or two but the central locking will activate as soon as the key has been paired to the vehicle.
Q: I have a BMW E36/early E46 3-series linked to the Win-Star system. The battery has gone flat and the EWS system has locked the vehicle with the keys in the ignition. What do I do?
A: Providing that the ignition is in the ‘on’ position, the bonnet is raised and you have access to a power supply (i.e. jumper pack) accessing the vehicle should be possible. Connect the Win-Star multiplexer (providing the vehicle has the old-style and power supply. Enter either the EWS central locking module or the general module. Activate the door locks or windows via component activation.
Q: When using the BMW Win-Star program, I can’t proceed any further than the vehicle selection screen, regardless of model. Why is this?
A: You must have the most current version of the Win-Star firmware installed on your computer. If you are running an older firmware version go to www.icm.com.tw/, click on the ‘downloads’ section, go to the firmware page and download the latest version. You can then follow the same procedure as the software updates to install and run your new firmware.
Q: I have a BMW E36 318i. It has logged an oxygen sensor fault or is running rough. I enter the live data page. The values for the oxygen sensors are reading ok, showing if they are functioning or not, but the CO2 potentiometer reading does not make sense. Why?
A: The carbon dioxide potentiometer box has been incorrectly labelled. Please disregard this value until the next update of the software is available.
Q: When I start my Winstar program, it automatically closes again. Why is this?
A: When you install Winstar on a new computer you are required to assign the multiplexer to the computer, which requires you to register it again. Call us on 0208 498 1288 and we can complete this process for you.
Q: I try to download the latest Winstar software from the V-Tech website but I can’t access the download page. What do I do?
A: Go to www.icm.com.tw, click on the downloads tab and download the required Winstar software from there. If you have further problems please call us on 0208 498 1288.
Q :I have just downloaded the latest version of the Winstar software, and the program is asking me for an ‘S3 upgrade.’ What is this?
A: This is a complete system upgrade. To obtain this upgrade you must contact us on 0208 498 1288, or email us at support@v-techuk.com and we can provide this for you. This upgrade is also free.
Q: I have a Mercedes that is running rough and is giving me ‘undefined’ fault codes. How can I rectify this?
A: Try restoring the ECU to its basic setting. This is done through the ‘ECU adaptation’ section. Carry out the basic setting reset procedure, clear the fault codes and test drive. This wont work in every single case but can rectify a lot of rough running and power loss issues, especially on kompressor motors.
Q: I have had my Winstar system for over 18 months, and when I use the latest version of software it has limited functions or it tells me that I have not purchased the latest CAN version. Why is this?
A: Your multiplexer probably requires a CAN board update. This is a replacement circuit board within your multiplexer that allows you to communicate with the later model Mercedes Benz, BMW, Volvo and Porsche CAN-based systems. If you are experiencing this or a similar problem please call us on 0208 498 1288.
Q: I have Winstar Porsche and am having trouble connecting with later model cayannes. Why is this?
A: You will need to purchase the latest CAN-enabled Porsche cable to be able to communicate with these vehicles. You will also require hardware version 7.4 for your multiplexer to run this application. This is available as a free download from the ICM website.
Q: I have a laptop/pc with Windows Vista operating system installed on it. Will Winstar still work with this operating system?
A: Yes. Winstar has been developed to be compatible with all windows operating systems, including the new Vista platform.
Q: I have a 168 A-Class Mercedes that requires new instrument cluster. Is it possible to carry out the coding via Winstar?
A: At the present time this function is not available. The instrument cluster for 168 A-Class must be replaced via the chassis number and coding must be ordered via the factory.
