Frequently Asked Questions

Opus C.M.T. Scan/Pro

Q: I have a CMT-Scan/Pro system and wish to use the Bluetooth function. How do I connect the diagnostic head with my PC?

A: First of all, make sure your PC or laptop supports Bluetooth, if it does not you can purchase a Bluetooth USB dongle. This will provide wireless communication for any laptop/PC that has a USB port. Now connect the CMT to a vehicle so that it is powered up, once that is done you can search for the CMT tool using the applicable Bluetooth software. Once the software finds the CMT you need to pair the device, pairing a device requires a PIN. The PIN to pair the CMT is one single zero “0”. Once the CMT is paired to the Bluetooth software you can know search for the relevant com port from the Opus CMT program.
Q: I have established a Bluetooth connection but the connection keeps dropping out. Why is this?

A: Make sure the vehicle is within 10 metres of the computer otherwise the connection may drop out. We also suggest using a USB connection when re-coding any control units to avoid loss of data. On some vehicles certain systems work on a minimum data speed rate which Bluetooth may not meet. In this case you must connect a USB cable between the tester and the laptop/PC.

Q: After reading out a list of fault codes from a vehicle, there are number of fault codes with no description beside them. How do I know what these codes mean?

A: If the fault code begins with the letter P and is followed by a zero, this implies a generic fault code common to all vehicle brands as of 2002. Any other fault codes are manufacturer-specific. V-Tech UK support team can supply you with information about fault codes over the telephone or by email.

Q: I am setting up CMT Scan or Pro for the first time on my computer. After I have completed the installation process, I still cannot connect to the selected vehicle. Why is this?

A: After successfully installing the software onto the laptop/PC you must now establish connection between the tester & computer and then update the firmware.

  • Open the Opus CMT program and click on “Settings” then click on “Hardware setup”.
  • Now another window will open up, from here click on “search” for VCI connection. Once it has successfully found the tester you can now click on “update” under the update firmware section.
  • It is very important the power & USB cable does not get disconnected whilst updating firmware; if it does it will damage the hardware. Once the firmware has been updated, the CMT tool is ready to be used.

Q: The CMT software is asking me to enter the correct Hardware key, what is this?

A: CMT software is supplied with its own unique Hardware key that activates and enables the software and hardware to work. If the Hardware key is incorrect the software will not work. The Hardware key is supplied to each user with their copy of software. If you cannot find your Hardware key then contact V-Tech UK with your CMT serial number at hand so we can issue you one.

Q: When I load the software CD into my computer nothing happens, what should I do?

A: To pin point this problem, put this CD into another computer to see whether it self loads. If it does then you know your original computer is not recognizing the CD. If the CD does not work on either computer there might be an error on the CD, in that case contact V-Tech UK support team.

Q: When I install the software update does it overwrite the old version?

A: If you using 2008 release 3 or newer software then yes. Every time you load a new update the release versions will change. So when you install the next version if will become 2009 release 1, then the next update will be 2009 release 2 etc.

Q: What is the Product ID?

A: The Product ID is a 9 character number that is required when installing CMT software. Usually there is a label on the CD cover which states this ID number an example being “o-410-786”. It is crucial the correct Product ID is used otherwise you will not be able to install the software.

Q: I receive two CD’s as part of my CMT software which one shall I use?

A: There are two CD’s for the CMT software; one is for PC installation and the other for Pocket PC. The one for the Pocket PC has “Pocket PC” or “PPC” written on it, this one must not be used for a PC/laptop. The CD for PC/laptop installation has either “Cars” or “Trucks” written on it.

Q: The CMT program is displaying a message “No VCI found” what does this mean?

A: If there is no physical connection between the vehicle and diagnostic head, or the PC and the diagnostic head this message will appear. If everything is connected and you are still getting this message then you need to go into the settings, click on hardware setup and search for the VCI connection, once the hardware is found click on update firmware. The CMT should have two leds switched on; amber & red one, as the firmware gets updated the green one should start flickering as well. If this does not work then try the below methods;

1. Search for the VCI tester and then press Update Firmware

If this does not work then try method 2.

2. Do not search for VCI, but just press Update Firmware whilst CMT is connected to 12v power supply and USB connection

If this does not work then try method 3.

3. Go into Device Manager check to see what COM port the CMT is using. Once you have made a note of it go back to VCI connection and click on Manual, choose the appropriate COM port from the list, DO NOT TEST, and then press Update Firmware.

If you still cannot find the hardware then contact the V-Tech UK support team.
